Most of our drill shirts can be customised with your logo or company name using front embroidery, back vinyl, or DTG printing (on light-coloured options). Frequently Asked Questions We Hear About Cotton Drill Fabric
What is cotton drill fabric?
Cotton drill is a strong, hard-wearing cotton fabric commonly used for workwear. It has a tightly woven construction that helps it stand up to regular wear on the job, while still offering the comfort and breathability you’d expect from cotton. That makes cotton drill shirts a popular choice for tradies, construction crews, warehouse teams and plenty of other Aussie workplaces.
What’s the difference between 155gsm and 190gsm cotton drill shirts?
GSM refers to the weight of the fabric. A 155gsm cotton drill shirt is lighter, making it a good option when you want something breathable and comfortable in warmer conditions. A 190gsm cotton drill shirt is heavier, giving you a bit more substance and durability for tougher working environments. Safe-T-Rex stocks lightweight and heavier cotton drill options, so you can choose what works best for your crew and the conditions they’re working in.
Are cotton drill shirts suitable for hot Australian summers?
Yep, cotton is naturally breathable, and lighter cotton drill shirts can be a practical choice for hot Australian working conditions. If your team spends long days outdoors or works in warmer environments, look for one of our lightweight cotton drill options. We also stock vented styles designed to help improve airflow and keep things more comfortable when the temperature climbs.
Can cotton drill work shirts be custom printed or embroidered?
Absolutely! Most of our cotton drill work shirts can be customised with your company logo or branding. Depending on the garment, you can choose options such as front embroidery, DTF (available on the front and back) or DTG printing on suitable light-coloured shirts. Some styles, particularly shirts with patterned reflective tape across the back, may have restrictions on where branding can be applied, so check the individual product page for the available options.
How do I care for my cotton drill shirts to keep them looking their best?
If your cotton drill shirts have been printed or embroidered, follow Safe-T-Rex’s custom garment care instructions rather than relying on the garment’s standard care label alone. The manufacturer’s label covers the shirt itself, but your custom branding needs a bit of extra care. For the longest life, wash your shirts inside out in cold water under 30°C, using a gentle detergent. Avoid bleach, fabric softener and soaking. Do not put customised shirts in a hot dryer — line-dry them in the shade instead, as heat can damage prints and adhesives, particularly DTF designs. Avoid dry cleaning and never iron directly over printed areas.
